How Sort Lines works
Sorting lines makes lists, identifiers, values, and simple records easier to scan and compare. Natural numeric sorting also places values such as item2 before item10 instead of comparing every character literally.
The text is divided into individual lines and ordered with the browser’s locale-aware comparison, including numeric awareness. The sorted lines are then joined without modifying their internal text.
Sorting is not the same as parsing a structured file. Headers, blank lines, case rules, locale, and embedded fields may need special treatment, so use a CSV or data-specific sorter for complex records.
